The Sixth Sense

I went through the new Barcelona airport today and was captivated by the Desigual clothes shop in the main concourse. It reminded me of a wise remark made by Jon Davies about there actually being a sixth sense, which designers must not forget - the ‘kinetic sense’ or the idea of motion.

The store’s window had a big panel that used film action to attract shoppers. It really worked and I watched no end of bustling travellers slowed down and grabbed by this clever bit of technology. Next stop, our high streets?

It’s funny isn’t it, how if you spot a brand doing one clever thing, then the chances are strong that they’re carrying out all sorts of other interesting activities. They have a great logo, created by bits of their clothing and I loved the way they scrawl hand-written sales messages across their windows. It seems that clever ideas breed clever ideas.
