Holmes & Marchant Assist Young Designers

Holmes & Marchant were recently approached by DOTT (Design of The Time) to assist a group of budding designers who were entering the Eco Design Challenge, we were asked to take on the role of ‘helpers’ to Sir James Smith Community School in Camelford, Cornwall.

H & M volunteered two of the design team to this project, Richard Hunt and Tim Nelis. They were assigned to the school - on hand for the students to call on when needed.

The Challenge was for the group to work out the size of their school’s carbon footprint and develop an eco project that would reduce the school’s environmental impact.

Tim and Richard were on hand to listen to the group’s ideas - the front runner was to tackle recycling aluminum cans at the school, but instead of just recycling they came up with an idea of giving the process a competitive edge and encouraging some inter-school rivalry!

Not only did the group invent the name ‘ I CAN’, they also designed the can crusher, logo and other forms of media to support a potential ‘product launch’ such as leaflets, information packs, a website and advertising slogans ‘I CAN, U CAN, WE CAN’.

Back in Marlow, some other members of the H & M team helped bring the concept to life as an entry into the challenge.

Fingers Crossed !!!
